Canelo Alvarez Beats Scull In Total Snoozefest, Crawford Clash Set For September

Canelo Wins Ugly, Scull Runs All Night

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez walked away undisputed again Saturday night in Riyadh, but let’s not pretend this was anything other than a cure for insomnia.

He beat William Scull by unanimous decision (115-113, 116-112, 119-109) to grab the IBF belt and unify the super middleweight division. Job done? Yes. Entertaining? Absolutely not.

Scull showed up to survive. Full stop. He flicked out range-finder jabs, ran circles, and did his best impersonation of a guy who wanted no part of a real fight. One judge actually scored it 115-113, which is pure robbery, but the other cards were wider. And deserved.

The craziest part? Alvarez and Scull combined for just 445 punches thrown across 12 rounds — the lowest in CompuBox history for a full-length fight. Pathetic.

Canelo Frustrated, But Never Hit The Gas

Alvarez tried to cut the ring and worked the body when he could. A few nice left hooks. A couple of solid right hands. Scull’s best moment? A sneaky uppercut in Round 5. Otherwise, he did a track meet.

“That’s why I hate fighting these kinds of guys,” Canelo said bluntly. “They just come to survive. I hope September brings something better.”

He’s not wrong. But let’s be clear — Canelo didn’t step it up either. He chased but never pressed the panic button to force the finish. The boos in Riyadh? Fully justified.

Crawford Showdown Locked In – Finally Some Real Action

The saving grace of the night came after the final bell. Turki Alalshikh jumped in and confirmed the fight we all actually care about: Canelo vs. Terence Crawford, September 12, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

This is the big one. Crawford stepping up in weight. Canelo finally facing someone who won’t spend 36 minutes running. Make no mistake — Crawford is the toughest opponent Canelo’s had since Bivol handed him an L.

Get your popcorn ready.

Badou Jack Gets A Gift, Munguia Cruises, Bakole Lucky To Escape

In the co-feature, Badou Jack retained his WBC cruiserweight title with a majority decision over Noel Mikaelyan. Scores were 114-114 and two at 115-113. But let’s be honest — Mikaelyan deserved better.

Jaime Munguia had no trouble with Bruno Surace, avenging his only knockout loss with a wide unanimous decision (116-112, 117-111 twice).

Meanwhile, Martin Bakole and Efe Ajagba slugged it out, but the cards were a mess: 94-96, 95-95, 95-95. Bakole looked relieved it was called a draw.

Richard Riakporhe kept it clean and simple, stopping Kevin Nicolas Espindola after four rounds when Espindola’s corner waved it off.
