Golden Boy is locking in a serious doubleheader on September 20 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, streaming worldwide on DAZN. On paper, it’s a mix of youth, history, and regional pride packaged into one card, but let’s cut through the PR shine and look at what’s really in play.
Fundora’s First Real Test or Another Routine March?
Gabriela “Sweet Poison” Fundora (16-0, 8 KOs), the youngest undisputed champion in boxing, will defend her WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine straps for the second time. She gets Alexas Daria “Iron Lady” Kubicki (13-1, 2 KOs) across from her, a Canadian ranked No. 8 by the WBA.
Kubicki picked up the WBC International belt in May by outpointing Alondra Yamile Hernández Mendoza, who had been undefeated before. Respectable win, sure, but stepping from fringe world level into Fundora’s territory is like crossing a border checkpoint under fire. She’s durable, she’s methodical, but is she really equipped to deal with Fundora’s offense and pace? That’s the question no press release answers.
Collazo’s Puerto Rican March Continues
Oscar “El Pupilo” Collazo (12-0, 9 KOs) takes the headliner role, defending his WBA, WBO, and Ring Magazine minimumweight titles against Jayson “Striker” Vayson (14-1-1, 8 KOs). Collazo’s been positioning himself as Puerto Rico’s next standard-bearer — his wins suggest discipline and sharp execution.
Vayson? He’s a tough, mobile operator from the Philippines with one loss on the ledger, but this is the kind of fight that exposes the gap between solid contenders and those truly built for championship fire. Collazo has the momentum and the tools. The only variable is whether he underestimates the threat in front of him.
Undercard Brings Heat or Just Filler?
The rest of the bill mixes prospects and regional talent:
-
2024 Olympian Ruslan Abdullaev (2-0, 1 KO) vs. Grimardi Machuca (17-2, 14 KOs) — an eight-rounder that could turn rough quick.
-
Joel Iriarte (8-0, 7 KOs) vs. Eduardo Hernandez (8-4, 5 KOs) in welterweight action.
-
Coachella’s Grant Flores (11-0, 9 KOs) vs. Brooklyn’s Courtney Pennington (17-9-3, 7 KOs) — expect a styles clash here.
The prelims? Former Olympian Gael Cabrera (9-0, 6 KOs) meets Judy Flores (14-4, 8 KOs). Javid Ramirez (14-0, 7 KOs) battles Brian Arregui (11-6, 7 KOs). Uruguay’s Adriana Pineiro (8-0, 1 KO) opens against Gloria Munguilla (8-1). These aren’t walk-in-the-park mismatches, but they’re clearly designed to showcase the A-sides.
‘No easy nights’ sounds good but promoters always say that to sell tickets 😒 Most times the favorite wins cause other fighter just there for paycheck unless they get lucky with a punch or injury.
‘Youngest champ’ don’t mean much if she hasn’t really been tested yet. Fundora’s big but I seen big fighters fall quick when someone scrappy gets close and throws wild punches they don’t expect.
I think Vayson got robbed before so he’s gonna come mad and swing hard. He ain’t got nothin to lose and that makes him dangerous. Collazo better protect his chin or this might be an upset night.
Exactly, man! They stole that fight in Indonesia from him, now he’s gonna take it out on Collazo. You can see it in his eyes, he hungry for belts more than fame.
@Vwright True! And them judges better not mess this one up again or it’s gonna look shady all over again. Let fighters win fair with fists not scorecards!
DAZN always tryna make us pay for these fights but sometimes they ain’t even worth it. I like boxing but streaming only stuff makes it hard for regular folks to enjoy unless you pirate or somethin 🤷♀️
Why they always put these fights in fancy casinos? Most fans can’t even go there. Should do it in a place where real boxing fans can afford tickets and see these fights live not just on apps.
Everyone actin like Fundora already won but she never fought no one as tough as Granadino before. Size don’t mean nothin if you ain’t ready to fight someone who comes to win for real.
I don’t get why people keep hypin up Collazo like he unbeatable. He fought some okay dudes but Vayson got power and heart. One good shot and Collazo gonna be nappin on the canvas. 🥊
