The first-ever live boxing match from Times Square is officially set for Friday, May 2, 2025, as some of boxing’s biggest stars—Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, and their opponents—made their grand arrivals at the Manhattan Center in New York City. The historic night, titled “FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves”, will be streamed exclusively on DAZN PPV worldwide, starting at 5:30 p.m. ET.
This event is brought to you by SNK Corporation, in association with Golden Boy Promotions and Matchroom Boxing, featuring a stacked card that includes an explosive lineup of fighters. Ryan Garcia will face off with Rolly Romero in a welterweight contest, Devin Haney takes on Jose Carlos Ramirez in a battle of elite super lightweights, and Teofimo Lopez defends his WBO Super Lightweight Title against Arnold Barboza Jr..
Ryan Garcia: Ready for a Historic Return
After a year-long layoff, Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) is set to return with a bang, aiming to continue his momentum following his last victory in 2023. Garcia expressed his excitement at being part of the historic Times Square event and emphasized his determination to make a statement:
“I’m coming back with a bang. I’m not here to play any games come Friday night. I’ve got a huge fight coming up next, so I have to take him as seriously as if I’m fighting Devin.”
Garcia was adamant about his explosiveness and hunger for the fight:
“I’m explosive, and I’m hungry. I feel the adrenaline right now, fight week. I’m feeling how I always feel: focused, ready to kill.”
Rolly Romero: Looking for the Knockout
Rolly Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) is equally fired up for the fight and is looking to make a statement in his welterweight debut:
“I’m feeling like it’s about damn time. It’s long overdue,” said Romero, who confidently proclaimed that he’s always gunning for a knockout:
“When have I ever not gone for a knockout? Every fight I’m in, I go for a knockout.”
Devin Haney: Ready for the Best Version of Himself
Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) is coming off a long break and looks to show the world a new and improved version of himself. Haney, excited about his return, said:
“I’m happy to be back in the ring. This is a dream come true. Allah is the perfect planner. I look to bring fireworks on May 2. I look to show the world a new-and-improved, better Devin Haney than before.”
However, Haney is fully focused on his opponent, Jose Ramirez, and isn’t looking ahead too far:
“My main focus right now is Jose Ramirez. He’s a former two-time champion. He’s coming, he’s bringing everything, and I look to handicap him and show him that I’m just on a whole different level.”
Jose Carlos Ramirez: Hungry for Glory
Jose Carlos Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) is eager to prove himself in this matchup with Haney:
“I’m extremely excited. First and foremost, I’m thankful for the opportunity, but I owe it to myself to show up and move up into a bigger weight class. I think that’s going to do wonders for me.”
Teofimo Lopez: Out to Prove Himself Again
Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) is ready to make a statement and further cement his legacy:
“We’re going to go out there and do what I have to do. I’m going to have fun and beat the brick out of this boy.”
Arnold Barboza Jr.: Confident and Ready for the Challenge
Arnold Barboza Jr. (32-0, 11 KOs) is fired up to face Teofimo Lopez and prove that he belongs in the elite ranks:
“I’m very excited, very excited to share the ring with Teofimo. He’s an awesome fighter, but I’m an awesome fighter, too. So, it’s gonna have some fireworks.”
The “Battle of the Badges” Showdown
The night will kick off with a special “Battle of the Badges” light heavyweight showdown between Joel Allen of the NYPD and James Gennari of the FDNY, taking place in the heart of Manhattan. Allen, representing the NYPD, expressed his excitement:
“I’m blown away. Wow, what a moment. I’m just trying to stay focused and not get caught up in the lights, but I’m very happy to be here.”
On the other side, James Gennari of the FDNY said:
“It’s a classic matchup. NYPD versus FDNY is classic, and it never gets old. I’m trying to go for the win, so that’s the plan.”
Oscar De La Hoya: Golden Boy’s Proud Contribution
Oscar De La Hoya, the head of Golden Boy Promotions, expressed his excitement for the event:
“We are very proud to be here in New York, the media capital of the world. We are excited that Golden Boy Promotions is a part of this excellent show. We have three amazing fighters on the card, and once again, Golden Boy Promotions proves that we are the best at positioning our fighters to be in this situation.”
Garcia vs. Romero: A Historic Fight for Boxing
Garcia vs. Romero is part of DAZN’s Knockout Weekend Bundle, offering fans two back-to-back nights of world-class boxing. The first-ever boxing event in Times Square is set to be one of the most talked-about fights of the year, leading up to the Canelo Álvarez vs. William Scull event on May 3.
