George Liddard vs. Derrick Osaze – January 26, 2025: The “Billericay Bomber” Takes Center Stage

By Tim Smith - January 28, 2025 - 3 comments

George Liddard, the undefeated middleweight prospect, steps into the spotlight on Friday, January 26, 2025, to face Derrick Osaze for the Commonwealth Silver Middleweight Title. This fight, topping Matchroom’s first NXTGEN card of the year, takes place at Indigo at The O2 in London and will be streamed live worldwide on DAZN.

The Essex fighter, known as the “Billericay Bomber,” promises a destructive performance as he aims to cement his place as one of the best middleweights on the domestic scene.

Fight Overview: Liddard’s Breakout Moment

George Liddard: “I’m Ready to Be Let Off the Leash”

George Liddard (10-0, 6 KOs) has been building momentum with impressive stoppage wins, including knockouts of George Davey and Omar Nguale Ilunga in late 2024. Trained by Tony Sims out of the Matchroom Boxing Gym, the 22-year-old believes he’s already among the UK’s top middleweights.

“I think I’m one of the best domestically,” Liddard said. “People might laugh at that, but I know what I bring. I’m ready to be let off the leash and take over the domestic scene. I’ve got to beat Osaze first, but I’m confident it’ll be a destructive performance. He’s experienced, but I’m fast, strong, and ready to show there’s nothing I can’t do in the ring.”

Liddard, a four-time National Champion, is treating this as his opportunity to announce himself on the domestic stage while aiming for even bigger fights in 2025.

“I’m fit and ready to go the full ten rounds if needed, but I don’t see it going that long. When opponents come to fight, they leave openings. That’s all I need—a split second—and I’ll capitalize.”

Derrick Osaze: The Measuring Stick

Derrick Osaze, a seasoned domestic competitor, has built a reputation as a tough and durable opponent. He’s shared the ring with several notable fighters and provides a meaningful test for Liddard.

Liddard acknowledges Osaze’s experience, saying:

“He’s been around, and he’s beaten and lost to good fighters. This is a great gauge of where I’m at on the domestic scene. Credit to him for stepping in with me—because not many want to.”

Promoter’s Perspective

Promoter Eddie Hearn sees Liddard as one of Matchroom’s brightest prospects:

“George has shown he’s got the tools to be a major player at middleweight. This is a big step for him, headlining on DAZN and fighting for his first title. He’s got the skillset, power, and confidence to deliver something special on Friday night.”

  1. I dont understand why people is so hyped about Liddard. Sure he have some wins but Osaze is way more experienced. If Liddard lose, its not gonna be a surprise, just reality check for him.

  2. This article is totally biased towards Liddard. Osaze has proven track record and Liddard is still unproven. Just because he says he’s ready doesn’t mean he actually is. We need to see results not just talk.

  3. I don’t get why everyone is hyping up Liddard. Sure, he’s undefeated, but he hasn’t fought anyone real yet! Osaze is tough, and he might just expose Liddard for being all talk. Just because you knock out a few guys doesn’t mean you’re the best. This fight will show if he can really handle pressure.
