Ike Ibeabuchi Declares War on the Heavyweight Division: “Usyk’s Reign Is Temporary”

By Tim Smith - October 16, 2025 - 11 comments

he boxing world just got flipped on its head.
Ike “The President” Ibeabuchi, the undefeated Nigerian powerhouse once feared by everyone in the ‘90s, has announced a full-blown comeback campaign — and it’s not for nostalgia. It’s war.

After 26 years away, Ibeabuchi returned to the ring in August and says he’s diving straight into a three-fight blitz to set up a shot at undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk in 2026. All three bouts will stream live on Prizefighting.tv, starting this November.

Three Fights, No Tune-Ups — Just Smoke

The 52-year-old former WBC International Champion isn’t easing in. His comeback schedule looks like something out of a Rocky montage — three fights in under two months, with two landing on major U.S. holidays:

  • November 8, 2025: Ike Ibeabuchi vs Kabiru “KB Godson” Towolawi — Lagos, Nigeria

  • Thanksgiving Day (Nov 27, 2025): Opponent TBD

  • Christmas Eve (Dec 24, 2025): Opponent TBD

Towolawi comes swinging — 26 wins, 22 knockouts — but Ibeabuchi says it doesn’t matter who stands across from him. He’s on a mission.

“My comeback was not a curiosity; it was a promise,” Ibeabuchi said. “Usyk’s the man right now, but his reign is temporary. I’m not here for nostalgia. Every fight from now is a message — ‘The President’ is serious.”

A 52-Year-Old Problem No One Wants

In a division where legends fade and prospects flop, Ibeabuchi’s story is almost mythical. The man went 21-0 with 16 knockouts before disappearing for over two decades. Now he’s back, older, heavier, and — somehow — meaner.

Prizefighting.tv’s spokesperson summed it up perfectly:

“This is one of the most compelling stories in heavyweight history. He’s not doing exhibitions. He’s doing damage. Fans will witness a legendary career revival in real-time.”

Love him or not, Ibeabuchi has the kind of raw danger that makes fighters nervous to say his name.

Can “The President” Really Crash the Heavyweight Throne?

Let’s not pretend this is just hype. Ibeabuchi’s chasing a man who’s rewriting history — Oleksandr Usyk, the undefeated Ukrainian genius with every major belt. Usyk moves like a middleweight and punches like a surgeon, but Ibeabuchi’s planning to walk straight through him.

The campaign isn’t about money or media. It’s about obsession. A 52-year-old chasing a ghost of his past — and daring to make it real again.

If he wins in Lagos and steamrolls through Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, the call for Usyk won’t be a stunt. It’ll be legitimate.

Ike Ibeabuchi’s comeback isn’t a feel-good movie — it’s a threat. He’s old, angry, and obsessed, and that makes him dangerous.
If this three-fight plan works, Usyk might have a problem nobody saw coming.

The President is back — and he’s signing executive orders with his fists.

  1. Man this guy serious but come on, 52? That’s grandpa age in boxing. He might have power but he ain’t got the legs no more. He gonna gas out by round 3.

    • True. He might hit hard but if he can’t move, that don’t mean nothing. Usyk moves like water and Ike gonna be swinging at air the whole fight. He just too slow now.

  2. I think he just trying to make up for lost time. But it’s too late now. Usyk is smart and don’t get hit easy. Ike just gonna look slow and confused against someone like that.

  3. This comeback is dumb. He old and been gone too long. Boxing ain’t the same now. He gonna lose and people gonna act shocked like they ain’t see this coming from a mile away.

  4. I believe in Ike cause he was a beast back in the day but I don’t think he ready for Usyk. That guy different. Fighting three times in two months at 52 is nuts.

  5. Ike’s comeback sounds cool but it’s risky. He ain’t fought in decades and boxing now is faster and harder. He probably can’t even keep up with the pace. He just gonna embarrass himself 😬

  6. People keep talking like Ike is some superhero but he been out 26 years! That’s longer than most boxers’ whole career. He gonna get hurt trying to prove something that don’t matter no more.

  7. This don’t make no sense. He been gone for like forever and now he think he just gonna beat everybody? Usyk is in shape and fights real fighters now. Ike should stay retired.

    • Exactly. Just cause he used to be tough don’t mean he still is. Time don’t wait for nobody. Usyk ain’t no joke and Ike better not act like it’s 1997 again.

    • Yeah but maybe he still got it. People get old but if he still punch hard maybe he surprise everybody. I just think he should try before we say he can’t.

  8. I don’t think a 52-year-old man should be fighting like that. It’s not safe and it feels like a money grab. Boxing is for young guys now, and this comeback sounds crazy.
