Salita Promotions is bringing its Big Time Boxing series back to Puerto Rico for the third time in a year, with a loaded fight card at the Coliseito Pedrín Zorrilla in San Juan on Thursday, October 23. The show, co-promoted with Universal Promotions and streaming live on DAZN, is headlined by a NABO super lightweight title clash between unbeaten Joshua James “Double J” Pagan (13-0, 4 KOs) and heavy-handed Maliek Montgomery (20-1, 18 KOs).
Tickets go on sale September 15 through PRticket.com, and with the NABO belt recently vacated by Abdullah Mason, the stakes are high for both prospects chasing a world-title track.
Pagan’s Biggest Test Yet
At just 24, Pagan has already gone through four undefeated opponents, building a résumé that shows he’s not afraid of risk. The southpaw has been steadily moved, but Montgomery represents something different: a puncher who can end a fight with one shot. Pagan called the opportunity “a blessing” and promised fireworks in San Juan, while Montgomery leaned into his underdog role, saying he’s “feeling right at home” in a position he’s lived with his whole life.
Ashleyann Lozada’s Homecoming
The co-feature belongs to Puerto Rican featherweight Ashleyann Lozada (2-0, 1 KO). Lozada made history as the island’s first female Olympic boxer when she competed in Paris in 2024, and now she returns home for the first time as a professional. She’s been perfect so far, winning her debut in Flint and then scoring a quick stoppage at Hall of Fame weekend in Verona, New York. Lozada is one of the sport’s top female prospects, and San Juan fans will see her under the spotlight before she’s matched tougher.
Puerto Rican Prospects in the Spotlight
The undercard keeps the local flavor strong:
-
Felix Parrilla (11-0, 9 KOs) – undefeated featherweight, highly rated prospect.
-
William “Yeyo” Colón (7-0, 4 KOs) – rising junior lightweight.
-
Kiria Tapia (7-0, 1 KO) – standout in Puerto Rican women’s boxing.
-
Carlos Arrieta (16-1, 9 KOs) vs Alfredo “El Salsero” Cruz (9-3-1, 5 KOs) – a Puerto Rican showdown already catching noise among local fans.
Salita Promotions head Dmitriy Salita called it “a special night for Puerto Rican boxing,” stressing his commitment to showcasing both men’s and women’s talent on the island.

Predictions: Pagan vs Montgomery
This fight boils down to whether Pagan’s polish and composure can neutralize Montgomery’s raw power. Pagan is the better technician, with cleaner footwork and sharper timing, but Montgomery has the kind of punch that can flip a fight in one moment. If Pagan can stay disciplined and avoid standing in the pocket too long, his jab and movement should carry him through the later rounds.
Prediction: Pagan by unanimous decision after some shaky early moments. Expect Montgomery to test his chin, but Pagan’s skillset should win him the NABO strap and keep him unbeaten.
Parrilla looks good on paper but I seen him get tired by round five before 🥱 If someone takes him deep into later rounds, I bet he slows down a lot.
I don’t trust DAZN streams anymore, last time it kept buffering during main event 😤 Hope they fix that by October or folks gonna be mad paying for glitchy video again.
This whole event feels like they pushing Puerto Rican fighters hard just cause it’s in San Juan 🌴 Not saying that’s bad but it’s not fair for outsiders trying to make it too.
True that! They should give other fighters same spotlight no matter where the fight is held at 👊
Puerto Rican fighters getting all love cause it’s in their backyard, but that ain’t cool when others workin just as hard 🙄
‘Yeyo’ Colón might be good but he hasn’t fought anyone serious yet so I don’t get why people saying he rising fast 🤷♀️ You gotta beat somebody who’s tough first.
Right! I watched one of his fights and it looked easy cause the other guy barely threw punches 😅 He needs a challenge before we say he’s rising star.
‘Big Time Boxing’ sounds cool but if they only keep doing shows in Puerto Rico then it’s not really big time for everyone else watching from outside 😂 They need to take this series other places too!
I don’t understand why people act like this Ashleyann girl is some big deal after only two fights. Like come on, she gotta prove herself more before calling her a top prospect or whatever.
For real! Just cause she went to Olympics don’t mean she’s ready for the pros yet. Two wins ain’t enough to say she’s top anything.
@Saunders Sarah I agree with you completely 😠 These promoters always hype up someone too early just cause of where they from or what they did before turning pro.
I think it’s messed up how they talk up Pagan like he already won when Montgomery got more fights and way more knockouts. That ain’t fair to act like it’s just about skill when strength matters too.
I don’t think Pagan is gonna win just because he’s unbeaten. That don’t mean much when the other guy got real power like Montgomery. One good punch and it’s lights out, no matter how fancy Pagan moves.
Exactly! People get all hyped over being undefeated, but they forget boxing is about who hits harder sometimes. Montgomery been knocking folks out, and that matters more than footwork.
You both right. Power always wins fights if you land right. Pagan gonna be dancing around till he catches one to the jaw 😤.
‘Homecoming’ this and ‘history-making’ that… but Lozada barely even fought anyone yet! I bet she gets another easy opponent so she looks good again 🙄 That ain’t how you prove you elite.
Too many people sleepin’ on Montgomery like he ain’t dangerous. One clean hit and that technical stuff goes out the window. Pagan gon’ be in trouble if he stands still even for a second 😤
Yup! All it takes is one shot and all that jab-jab-run thing won’t save him no more. They better stop underrating Maliek.
Montgomery got way more knockouts than Pagan has wins, so how is he the underdog? Just cause media says so? Makes no sense, this feels biased to me 🤨
They always talk about showcasing Puerto Rican talent, but half the fights feel like setups just to keep fighters undefeated. Real fans want real matchups, not just hype shows on DAZN 📺
Lozada only got attention cause of the Olympics and now they acting like she unbeatable. She only got two fights! Let her fight someone with real experience before they crown her champion 👎
I don’t think Pagan is all that great just because he beat some undefeated guys. Records don’t mean much when you don’t face real competition. Montgomery’s power is gonna be too much for him 🔥
Exactly! People get too hyped over clean records, but one punch from a real brawler like Montgomery and it’s lights out. Pagan better not get cocky.
