Kieron Conway isn’t buying the hype around George Liddard. The British and Commonwealth middleweight champion says the challenger is biting off more than he can chew and vows to knock him out when they meet October 17 at a sold-out York Hall, live worldwide on DAZN.
Speaking on Matchroom Boxing’s Flash Knockdown podcast, Conway dismissed the talk coming from Liddard’s camp. “It’s a step too soon for him. I’m wondering where the confidence is coming from. Is it manufactured? I don’t see why it would be real,” Conway said. “I knock George out. There’s no way a young lad is going to walk around saying he’s going to knock me out, I’m not going to let that happen.”
Conway: “I’m Better In Every Department”
Conway made it clear the fight is personal. “I’ve got a little one now. Every day, every session, every moment is all for her now and in the future. Someone coming and telling me they want to take that away pisses me off. That’s my motivation,” he said.
He doesn’t see Liddard matching him anywhere. “I’m better in every department. If it gets rough, which it will, I’ve got the bigger heart and reason why.”
Liddard Refuses To Back Down
Liddard, unbeaten and eager, isn’t fazed. “I wouldn’t be in this fight if I didn’t wholeheartedly believe I can win,” he said on the same podcast. “I didn’t need to take this fight, I want to take this fight. It’s a big opportunity for me. He’s got everything to lose in this fight and I’ve got everything to gain.”
He’s hunting the upset. “I genuinely think I’ll knock Conway out, this fight changes everything for me.”
Boots Ennis Plots His Own Move At 154
Also on the episode, IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis said he’s moving up in weight: “I’ve set my sights on a world title at 154 pounds starting October 11.” His opponent, Uisma Lima, promised to crash the party: “A win puts respect on my name.”
Liddard sayin it’s all gain for him means he ain’t got pressure but that ain’t always good thing either cause without fear you take stupid risks and that gets you knocked cold.
Yeah man some fighters need pressure to focus better, if you feel too relaxed before fight then you might forget it’s serious business till it’s too late 😬
All this hype on both sides is gettin old fast. Let the fight talk instead of mouths yapping every day like they already champions or something.
Facts! They talk more than they train probably 😤 Real boxers let fists do speakin not podcasts every week.
Media make it worse too by blowin everything outta proportion like it’s Ali vs Tyson or somethin 😂 It’s just another British title match chill down.
“Boots” Ennis movin up weight don’t make sense if you ask me. Why not clean up at welterweight first? Jumpin ahead gonna backfire when them bigger boys hit harder than what he’s used to.
“Boots” just want more belts faster but skipping steps never helps long term career 🙄 Shoulda waited till after couple more defenses before going up.
I think Liddard is dreaming too big right now. He might have skills but Conway been in way tougher fights and knows how to handle pressure way better than him.
Exactly bro, Liddard just trying to get clout off Conway’s name. He ain’t proved nothin yet so what makes him think he can win this fight? 🤔
People keep saying Liddard is hungry, but hunger don’t beat experience. Conway got belts for a reason and now fights for his kid too. That kind of drive is hard to beat in a ring.
Liddard saying he gonna knock Conway out is just silly. He ain’t fought nobody like Conway yet, and now he think he’s gonna win just cause he wants it more? That’s not how boxing works 🤷♂️
Conway talkin like he already won the fight. That’s dangerous thinking. If he underestimates Liddard, he might be the one laying on the floor. Confidence can turn into cocky real quick 😤
I don’t get why people think Liddard got a real shot here. Conway been fighting top guys and Liddard just starting. Just cause you’re young and loud don’t mean you ready to win big fights.
