Manny Pacquiao – Mario Barrios Final Press Quotes From Las Vegas

By Tim Smith - July 17, 2025 - 9 comments

Manny Pacquiao is either delusional, daring, or both. The 46-year-old Hall of Famer, freshly inducted into boxing’s shrine of immortals, is coming straight out of retirement to challenge Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title this Saturday, July 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas — live on Prime Video PPV at 8 p.m. ET / 1 a.m. BST / 2 a.m. MESZ.

And just to be clear: he’s not here to “have fun.” He wants the belt. Again. Against a live, sharp, younger champion. Welcome to boxing — where reality checks get ducked more than mandatories.

“I’m still here” – Pacquiao refuses to die quietly

“I’m okay being the underdog,” Pacquiao said. “I’ve been the underdog many times. I’m always bringing surprises.”

This isn’t false modesty — he’s leaning in. “We’re back in boxing again. We’re going to show the world that boxing is still alive and kicking. Manny Pacquiao is still here. I’m back.”

He’s also pretending time didn’t pass. “I’ve been enjoying training camp like I did in the past. Just like when I was 26 years old. The discipline is still the same.”

Even with the long layoff, he insists he didn’t switch off: “I’m still active and exercising all the time. I never take it easy in training.”

This fight isn’t just about belts. It’s about pride. “I’m here because I love to go toe-to-toe. I want to give the fans what they want. That’s my goal every time I step into the ring.”

And if you think he’s treating Barrios like some easy warmup, forget it. “I respect Barrios. He’s a champion and he works hard also. This is for the fans.”

“It’s my time now” – Barrios eyes a legend’s head

Mario Barrios might be soft-spoken, but he’s not here to get starstruck. “Hats off to Pacquiao for daring to be great. But it’s my time now and I’m gonna show that come Saturday.”

He’s not trying to be polite. He’s trying to break an old man in half. “I’m not going in there looking for the knockout, but I’m going in there with bad intentions and power in both hands.”

Barrios knows the storyline — he grew up watching Pacquiao knock out Mexicans for fun. “He’s had so many victories over Mexican fighters… now I’m gonna be on the other side with my hand raised.”

One particular moment burned into his memory: “I was a big Juan Manuel Márquez fan. When he knocked out Manny, that was one of my favorite moments.”

That’s not fanboy talk — that’s fuel. “At the end of the day, he’s just another man in there. Another opponent trying to take my title.”

And Barrios is ready for hell: “We’ve had a tremendous training camp. I’ve been preparing for 12 rounds of nonstop action. I know the style that he brings when he steps into the ring. I’m looking to test him in every way come Saturday.”

  1. ‘I feel like I’m 26 again’ — yeah right! That’s what old folks always say when they don’t wanna admit they slowing down 👴 It’s not smart to mess with young champs like Barrios.

    • ‘Still active’? Come on bro, jogging every day ain’t preparing you for real boxing pace 😂 Barrios gonna expose that real quick Saturday night!

  2. Ain’t no way Pacquiao can hang with these young guys now 😂 No disrespect but father time wins every time! He should train others or be on TV shows not taking punches at this age.

  3. Barrios got the edge cause he’s younger, faster and hungry for glory while Manny just wanna prove a point that nobody asked for 😅 This ain’t about fans anymore it’s his ego talking.

  4. People act like it’s still 2010 or something 😤 Pacquiao is not gonna beat Barrios who been fighting real opponents lately. You can’t stop time with motivation, age hits everyone no matter how great.

    • True Wayne! These fans living in the past too much. Pacquiao was good but now he’s slow and rusty probably. Barrios been active so he’s gonna outwork him for sure.

  5. Pacquiao coming back is a bad idea because it ain’t the same anymore. The sport moved on without him and these new fighters hit hard. He ain’t training like before, no matter what he says.

  6. I think Manny Pacquiao is just being stubborn now. He don’t need to prove nothing at his age. He already got fame and money, so why risk getting hurt by a younger fighter? 🤔

    • Yeah exactly, John. It’s dumb to go fight again when you older and slower. Barrios got that youth and hunger on his side. Manny should just stay retired before he gets embarrassed bad.
