‘It Means Everything’: Pacquiao & Barrios Press Quotes Before July 19 Vegas Fight

By Tim Smith - June 26, 2025 - 10 comments

Manny Pacquiao is 45 years old. Already in the Hall of Fame. Already broke the “oldest welterweight champ” record once. But on Saturday, July 19, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, he’s back again — headlining a PBC Pay-Per-View card against WBC champ Mario Barrios.

The fight streams live on Prime Video PPV, with the main card starting at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT / 1 AM UK (Sunday). And no, this isn’t a nostalgia tour. He’s actually trying to win a world title again. Against a live, ranked opponent.

Pacquiao says he’s still got it – and he’s not here for a farewell party

You think he’s just doing this for a final walkout? Think again. Pacquiao’s coming for another belt. He straight up said:

“My goal is to be the oldest champion and retire as a champion.”

Not retire with a paycheck. Not retire with applause. Retire with another world title.

“The fire is back,” he added. “I feel fast, the strength is still there. This time I’m 100% — no distractions, no politics, just the fight.”

Even Freddie Roach is trying to slow him down in camp. And Manny’s response?

“I still want to push myself every day. Maybe I have two or three fights left. We’ll see.”

That’s not a guy showing up to shake hands and wave. That’s a guy trying to erase the Ugas loss and rewrite his own ending.

Barrios isn’t just younger — he’s dangerous, and the undercard’s stacked

Mario Barrios isn’t some tomato can. He’s got height, reach, youth, and momentum. He just beat Yordenis Ugas (the guy who beat Manny in 2021) and now he’s going for legend-killer status. If he wins, he retires a Hall of Famer on live TV. You think he’s not coming to scrap?

And the card? It’s loaded:

  • Sebastian Fundora vs. Tim Tszyu II – Bloody, messy, and unfinished business.

  • Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz vs. Angel Fierro II – Guaranteed chaos.

  • Brandon Figueroa vs. Joet Gonzalez – Slugfest to kick off the show.

This PPV isn’t just about Manny. It’s a real fight night.

Final word: Pacquiao says he’s not done. Barrios thinks he is. Somebody’s getting shut up. This won’t be some respectful farewell — it’s either a last flex from a living legend or the fight where age finally catches up. Which one are you betting on?

  1. This whole card fire 🔥 Not just about Manny! Fundora vs Tszyu II gonna be bloody again and Pitbull Cruz always bring war! Worth the PPV price easy.

  2. ‘The fire is back’ sounds like something people say before they lose hard 😩 I think Manny saying stuff like that to hype it up but deep down knows it’s over.

    • ‘Fire’ don’t mean much if your body can’t keep up no more. Talk don’t win fights, fists do and Barrios got younger fists 🥊🔥

    • Y’all forgetting Pacquiao been beating guys bigger and stronger since forever. Don’t matter how young Barrios is if Manny connects first.

  3. I think this is dumb because Pacquiao should be retired already with his family not getting punched in the face again 🧓🥊 This ain’t smart, it’s crazy to chase belts at his age.

  4. Mario Barrios is gonna beat Manny bad and everyone gonna see it coming but still act surprised 😒 Pac-Man too slow now and them young fighters ain’t scared of legends anymore.

    • That ain’t true, Manny still fast and has experience that Barrios don’t have. Y’all just counting out greatness cause of age like that matters more than skill.

  5. I don’t get why Pacquiao still fighting. He already done more than anyone needs to. He’s old and got nothing else to prove. Fighting now just puts his health at risk for no reason.

    • He not doing it for no reason, he wants to be champ again and that’s brave. If he thinks he can win, let him fight. It’s his choice not ours 💪.

    • Pacquiao ain’t dumb, he knows what he’s doing. Maybe you don’t understand the hunger champions got even when they old. That fire never go out.
