Fight Overview: The Mayer-Ryan Rivalry Intensifies
Mikaela Mayer: Looking to Prove Her First Victory Was No Fluke
Mikaela Mayer (20-2, 5 KOs) dethroned Sandy Ryan via majority decision last September, but the fight was razor-close, leaving plenty of unfinished business. Now, the former two-division world champion looks to solidify her position at welterweight.
“I could have moved on, but the fans wanted this rematch, and I’m ready to prove my dominance. It will be worse for Sandy this time.”
Mayer, a former IBF and WBO junior lightweight champion, moved up through the divisions before claiming welterweight gold. She now has a chance to leave no doubt about her superiority over Ryan.
Sandy Ryan: Out for Redemption
Sandy Ryan (7-2-1, 3 KOs) feels she was thrown off her game last time after a chaotic fight week. The Derby native, a former Commonwealth Games gold medalist, is determined to reclaim her title.
“This time, I will be fully prepared. I fought in anger last time, and that affected my performance. On March 29, I take my belt back.”
Ryan has been in tough fights before, holding wins over Marie-Pier Houle and Terri Harper, but she views this fight as the most important of her career.
“It was a great fight and did great numbers for ESPN. That’s why Mayer had to take this rematch—because it’s the biggest fight for both of us.”
Co-Main Event: Brian Norman Jr. vs. Derrieck Cuevas – WBO Welterweight Title
Brian Norman Jr. (26-0, 20 KOs) defends his WBO welterweight title for the first time against Derrieck Cuevas (27-1-1, 19 KOs).
Norman became champion after knocking out Giovani Santillan in May 2024 and was elevated to full titleholder after Terence Crawford vacated the belt.
“Cuevas is a tough competitor, but I will guarantee a spectacular performance come March 29.”
Cuevas, riding a four-fight knockout streak, is making his first appearance in a world title fight.
“I respect Norman, but on March 29, a new champion will be crowned.”
WBC Featherweight Final Eliminator: Bruce Carrington Jr. vs. Jose Enrique Vivas
Featherweight sensation Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (14-0, 8 KOs) meets Jose Enrique Vivas (23-3, 12 KOs) in a WBC final eliminator, with the winner securing a shot at the world title.
Carrington had a standout 2024, securing four wins, including a viral knockout of Bernard Torres that landed on SportsCenter’s Top 10.
“I’ve been working toward this moment my whole career. This is my chance to prove I’m ready for a world title shot.”
Vivas is a rugged Mexican contender who bounced back from losses to Joet Gonzalez and Eduardo Baez with a first-round knockout over Jonathan Aguilar in February 2024.
“Carrington is tough, but I’ve fought bigger punchers. He’s not stopping me.”

I don’t get why everyone is so hyped about this rematch. Mayer might have won last time, but it was super close! Ryan deserves another chance. Plus, it’s not like Mayer has been dominating everyone else. I think Ryan will surprise us this time!
I don’t get why people think Mayer is the favorite. Last fight was super close and Sandy Ryan has been training hard, so she can totally take her down this time. People need to stop underestimating her!
Mikaela Mayer is obviously gonna win again. I mean, she already beat Sandy Ryan, so why would this time be different? Sandy should just give up already because she ain’t got what it takes to win.
