Omar Trinidad Dominates Main Event
Omar Trinidad (18-0, 12 KOs) put on a clinic Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd at the Commerce Casino Events Center, securing a unanimous decision win over Filipino veteran Mike Plania.
Defending his WBC Continental Americas Featherweight Title for the third time, Trinidad controlled the fight from start to finish. Working behind a sharp jab and landing an overhand right in the third round that sent Plania to the ropes, Trinidad showed why he’s ranked #2 by the IBF and #6 by the WBC. Scores were 100-90 (twice) and 99-91.
With a strong showing in front of WBO Featherweight Champion Rafael Espinoza, Trinidad cemented his spot as one of the top contenders in the featherweight division.
Mizuki Hirata Impresses in U.S. Debut
WBO Women’s Super Flyweight Champion Mizuki Hirata (7-0, 2 KOs) made a memorable U.S. debut, stopping Maribel Ramirez (15-11-4, 3 KOs) in the eighth round. Under the guidance of trainer Manny Robles, Hirata delivered a dominant performance, dropping Ramirez in the second round and forcing the stoppage due to a cut from an accidental headbutt. Scores at the time of the stoppage were 80-71 (twice) and 79-72.
Is there a fighter tougher than Hirata in this division? Her aggressive style and power punches suggest not.
Ali Akhmedov Scores Spectacular KO
Ali Akhmedov (23-1, 17 KOs) made a triumphant return with a second-round knockout of Malcolm Jones (17-5-1, 10 KOs). Akhmedov’s relentless attack forced the referee to stop the fight at 1:17 of the second round.

Mizuki Hirata’s U.S. debut was impressive, but we should consider the circumstances surrounding her victory. Stopping Maribel Ramirez due to an accidental headbutt raises concerns about whether she can consistently handle tougher opponents without such advantages.
While Omar Trinidad’s performance was commendable, one must question the level of competition he faced. Mike Plania, despite being a veteran, hasn’t shown consistent results in recent fights. This victory might not reflect Trinidad’s true potential against elite opponents.
I don’t think Omar Trinidad is that great. Sure, he won, but the guy he fought was old news. Let’s see him fight someone tougher!
Mizuki Hirata may have won, but it was just luck with that headbutt. I want to see her fight without any accidents to really know if she’s the best.
Ali Akhmedov’s KO was cool, but come on! He needs to face better opponents. Beating Malcolm Jones doesn’t impress me at all.
