Fight Overview: Hometown Glory and Middleweight Action

Omari Jones: A Star in the Making

Omari Jones, the 22-year-old Olympic medalist, enters the professional ranks with high expectations. After earning a bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics and a silver at the 2021 World Championships, Jones will debut in front of a hometown crowd.

Reflecting on his journey, Jones shared his excitement:
“I’m very excited to be fighting in my hometown of Orlando. After years of fighting overseas, I’m ready to make my pro debut as a professional and put on a great performance for my city.”

Jones is known for his speed, adaptability, and high boxing IQ. He plans to make a statement in his six-round bout:
“What fans can expect from me on March 15 is a masterclass. I’ll showcase my skillset, speed, and power. I’ll look like a true veteran in my debut.”

Austin “Ammo” Williams vs. Patrice Volny

Austin “Ammo” Williams (17-1, 12 KOs) continues his comeback trail, facing Patrice Volny (19-1, 13 KOs) in a 12-round middleweight battle. Ranked in the top 10 by the WBC, WBA, and IBF, Williams is eager to climb back toward title contention.

Williams, a powerful southpaw from Texas, bounced back in November with a KO win after a tough loss to Hamzah Sheeraz earlier in 2024. He’s confident and ready to showcase his skills:
“March 15 marks the beginning of my life. The art I brought into this world is now ready to be displayed. There will be laughter, there will be tears, and there will be an explosive finish in Orlando.”

However, Volny, riding high after a KO victory over Steven Butler, sees this fight as his chance to make a statement in the middleweight division:
“This is a fight I specifically asked for. It’s a great opportunity for me, and I intend on seizing it. On March 15, I will make him pay every second of this fight. Time to go to war!”

Promoter’s Take

Promoter Eddie Hearn emphasized the significance of building fighters in their hometowns and the potential for both Jones and Williams:
“It’s so important to build fighters in their hometowns. Omari has all the tools to become a superstar in the States, and this is the perfect platform to begin that journey. Ammo bounced back brilliantly in his last fight, but Patrice Volny is a dangerous customer who sees this as a massive opportunity.”

What’s at Stake?

For Jones, his professional debut is the first step in a promising career. With Orlando behind him, he has the chance to establish himself as a star in the making.

For Williams, a win keeps him on track for bigger fights and title contention. Meanwhile, Volny has the opportunity to disrupt Williams’ comeback and cement his place in the middleweight rankings.

  1. It’s clear that Williams has experience and skills that can’t be ignored. Just because Jones is from Orlando, it doesn’t guarantee him a win. Volny is going to bring the fight hard, this not easy at all.

  2. I dont understand why people think Jones will be a star. He only won a bronze medal, and that not mean he can fight pro. Medal don’t equal skill in the ring. Many medals but few champs.

  3. I don’t get why everyone’s making such a big deal about Omari Jones. Just because he won a medal doesn’t mean he’s going to be a superstar. There are plenty of boxers who didn’t make it after starting strong. Plus, fighting at home is nice, but it’s not everything. Let’s see if he can really handle the pressure in the ring.
