Louisville’s own Pryce “The Postman” Sparrow will officially launch his professional boxing career this Saturday, April 19 at The Gillespie in downtown Louisville, just a few blocks from the Muhammad Ali Center and a week before Derby festivities kick off.

The event, promoted by Roy Jones Jr. Boxing in association with Sparrow Boxing, will stream live on Billions.co starting at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT. Tickets are available now on Eventbrite.

Sparrow Aims for a Strong Start

Sparrow, a two-time national amateur champion, steps into the pros with major hometown backing. He’ll fight Gabriel Triminio (1-1) of South Carolina in a six-round super lightweight clash.

“I don’t feel pressure fighting at home,” said Sparrow. “This is the beginning of the rest of my life, and I’m just excited to get in there and put on a show.”

Roy Jones Jr. Training Fighters On the Card

Roy Jones Jr., one of boxing’s all-time greats, will be working the corners for two fighters on the show:

  • Seantorius “Hardhead” Martin (10-1, 6 KOs) faces Rommell Toran (2-5, 2 KOs) in a six-round junior middleweight bout.
Martin, originally from Georgia, said Jones took him under his wing after hearing about his struggles self-funding his boxing career.

  • Marko Szalai (7-1-1, 5 KOs) fights Christopher Gunn in a six-round super lightweight contest.
Szalai, a Canadian fighter, moved to Pensacola, Florida, and now lives and trains on Jones’ farm, training daily in the same gym where Jones himself built his legendary career.

Full Undercard Highlights

  • Ebenezer “Stuntman” Griffith (4-0, 1 KO), another Louisville product, will face Jeremiah “The Prophet” Scott (2-2, 2 KOs) in a six-round super welterweight clash.

  • Jorge Carlos (9-0, 8 KOs), a Kansas native and former national amateur standout who has also trained with Manny Pacquiao, will battle Juan Carlos Pena (32-13-1, 23 KOs) in a six-round super lightweight bout.

Roy Jones Jr.’s New Chapter as Trainer-Promoter

Jones, who won world titles from middleweight to heavyweight and dominated the sport’s pound-for-pound lists in the late ’90s and early 2000s, is now fully focused on developing young talent. His Pensacola-based gym houses over 15 active prospects, continuing the legacy he built during his historic career.

This weekend’s Louisville show offers a chance to see both rising local prospects and fighters under Roy Jones Jr.’s guidance all chasing their next big breakthrough.

  1. ‘Y’all ever think about how boxers are like superheroes? They train hard and fight, but they also need to put on a show for us fans too! Who knew boxing could be so dramatic?’ 😂🥊

  2. So Roy Jones Jr is training fighters now? LOL that’s funny! Like he’s gonna turn every fighter into a champ just like that 😂 We all know it’s not that easy, right? Not sure how this will go for them.

    • ‘Training fighters’ more like giving them a few tips and calling it a day! Just because you’re famous doesn’t mean you can teach boxing 😂

    • ‘Roy Jones is great but come on now, does he really know how to teach? It’s one thing to fight and another to coach!’ 😅

  3. Pryce Sparrow has a solid background as an amateur boxer, being a two-time national champion gives him an edge. Fighting at home could boost his confidence, but the pressure might also be overwhelming. It’s worth watching!

  4. I don’t see the point of hyping this guy up. Just another amateur thinking he can make it big. How many times do we have to see local fighters fail? This will probably be no different. 🙄

  5. This is so exciting! 🥳 I can’t wait to see Pryce ‘The Postman’ Sparrow in action! Hometown heroes make me proud, and I know he’ll put on a great show. Go get ’em, Pryce! 💪
