At 92, Don King is still defying logic. The Hall of Fame promoter has declared that Kubrat Pulev will fight Michael Hunter for the WBA heavyweight title on October 4 at Miami’s Jai-Alai Fronton Casino.
The announcement comes with one problem: Hunter’s other promoters insist he isn’t available and are dragging King through arbitration and court. King’s answer? Stage the fight anyway — and sue everyone in his path.
King vs Epic Sports
Back in spring, King Promotions won a $1.1m WBA purse bid to stage Pulev–Hunter, originally set for August 23. Epic Sports tried to block it, claiming Hunter’s tied up elsewhere.
King says Hunter signed a binding three-year deal with him in February. The WBA twice rejected Epic’s appeals, but they’ve now escalated the fight to the courts.
King didn’t hold back:
“It’s all corruption, fraud, bribery, rigged schemes and crooked scams… Epic Sports is trying to nullify the bout.”
So far, the WBA has sided with King — but the legal battle is only getting messier.
Miller Rumours
Adding to the drama, King has sent cease-and-desist letters to promoters after rumours of Hunter fighting Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller on September 11.
King dismissed it outright:
“They are trying to destroy Michael Hunter’s career. This fight will go on.”
Bottom line: Don King says Pulev–Hunter is happening. Epic Sports says it isn’t. The WBA has sided with King. Unless the courts stop it, Miami could see one of the strangest heavyweight nights in years.
