Red Owl Boxing isn’t playing it safe for its first California show. On Friday, October 10, 2025, the indie outfit drags its Boxfest series to Commerce Casino, Los Angeles and streams live on DAZN at 11 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. PT. They’re rolling out a TV crew with real boxing cred: Corey Erdman calling the play-by-play, Shawn Porter breaking down the action, Lupe Contreras hyping the intros, and Ray Flores roaming ringside with mic in hand.
Gabriel Fanous, the boss at Red Owl, put it bluntly: “Boxfest XVI represents everything Red Owl Boxing stands for — competitive fights, world-class production, and an authentic showcase of talent.” Translation: they want it gritty but polished enough to get noticed.
Broadcast team brings legit fight IQ
Corey Erdman’s voice has been behind plenty of wild nights, and Shawn Porter knows what it feels like when the lights burn hottest. Lupe Contreras will keep the in-ring energy sharp, while Ray Flores stalks fighters before and after the bell with live updates and interviews. This isn’t a thrown-together crew; it’s solid boxing brains with miles on them.
Main event: Brown looks to keep crushing, Machuca wants to wreck the script
Deonte “Lay Em Down” Brown (16-0, 11 KOs) finally gets a little spotlight as he defends the WBA Continental Americas super featherweight belt against Grimardi Machuca (17-2, 14 KOs). Brown’s been icing guys in relative quiet; this is his first big broadcast push. Machuca’s no Instagram opponent — he’s rugged, hits heavy and comes out of Camden with bad intentions.
Also on DAZN:
-
Saul “The Beast” Sanchez (21-4, 12 KOs) vs Edwin Rodriguez (12-9-2, 5 KOs) — eight-round bantamweight rematch with history and bad blood.
-
Rashida Ellis makes her pro debut at featherweight against seasoned Maria “Polverita” Salinas (27-12-6, 7 KOs).
-
Criztec Bazaldua vs Darian Castro at super lightweight.
-
Cornellio Phipps vs Jessie Mandapat at super bantam.
-
Angel Perez vs Sachin Rohila at welter.
Before DAZN goes live, Starfund.stream runs a nine-bout undercard starting 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT — mostly hungry SoCal prospects and a few dangerous spoilers.
My Prediction
Brown’s power is real, and Machuca is tailor-made to get cracked if he tries to bully inside without head movement. Could see a slow first couple rounds, then Brown dropping the hammer mid-fight — call it TKO around the 6th. Sanchez–Rodriguez? Sanchez should win, but Rodriguez already dragged him into trouble once; don’t be shocked if this gets messy again. Rashida Ellis? If the Olympian can’t deal with Salinas’ tricks, that’s a red flag — but youth and speed should bail her out. Overall: smart card building — tough enough to test guys, not reckless matchmaking. The broadcast crew’s solid.

‘This whole event feels like they trying too hard to seem important with all them announcers and cameras but if people ain’t tuning in none of that matters.’
I think Sanchez vs Rodriguez gonna be boring again cause neither one of them really hit hard enough to end it early. They gonna hug and dance around like last time 🙄.
‘Yup, seen that first fight and it was sloppy all over the place. Don’t know why they bringing back that matchup when there’s better ones out there.’
This card got way too many matches and most of them only four rounds. You can’t learn nothing about a fighter in four rounds, it’s barely enough time to get warmed up.
How come they put Rashida Ellis in there with a woman who got over 40 fights? That seems unfair for someone just starting out unless they trying to prove something too fast.
They probably trying to use Ellis’ name from the Olympics to get attention but if she lose first fight then what? That’ll look real bad for her career start.
They always try to make it sound like these fights matter, but half them names I never even heard of. If the fights so good why they doing it at a casino and not a real arena? 🤨
Exactly! A casino ain’t no big venue, that’s where people go to gamble not watch world-class boxing. Makes you wonder if this is just for show and not serious.
I don’t get why they keep hyping up these fighters who ain’t fought nobody real yet. Brown might be undefeated but that don’t mean he’s ready for someone like Machuca who been in wars already. Just cause it’s on DAZN don’t make it legit.
