Reséndiz shocks Plant, Charlo rolls, and Lucero flattens Valenzuela in stacked Vegas card

Mexican underdog Armando Reséndiz threw a wrench into the super middleweight pecking order Saturday night at Mandalay Bay, out-hustling Caleb Plant and snatching the Interim WBA strap in a scrappy split decision win on Prime Video. Two judges gave it to Reséndiz 116-112, enough to cancel out a 115-113 card for Plant—and enough to remind everyone that pressure and chin still count for something in this division.

Reséndiz muscles past Plant with relentless pressure

From the opening bell, Reséndiz stalked Plant like it was personal.

He cut the ring, threw heavy leather, and forced Plant into a pace he didn’t like. While Plant’s jab and movement landed points, they didn’t slow down the Mexican, who kept pushing forward, unfazed by pot shots or reputation.

Round 3 was a clear turning point—Reséndiz landed flush, backed Plant up, and set the tone for the chaos to come. The jab couldn’t stop him. The angles couldn’t confuse him. And by Round 7, he rattled Plant with a thudding right hand and a follow-up left hook.

“He caught me with one overhand right,” Plant admitted. “Other than that, nothing really hurt me or stunned me.” That’s fine. But he still lost.

Reséndiz owned the second half of the fight. Two judges gave him every round from 6 to 12. He out-landed Plant 186 to 108 and connected at a sharper clip—31% to 21%, per CompuBox. The numbers told the story: Plant boxed, but Reséndiz fought. And the fight won.

“I knew everybody was going to be against me,” Reséndiz said. “But I believed in myself… I’m ready to fight anyone.”

Charlo pounds LaManna in comeback beatdown

Jermall Charlo didn’t bother easing back into the mix. After a 30-month layoff, he dropped Thomas LaManna three times before the ringside doctor pulled the plug after Round 5.

Charlo was sharp, calm, and mean. He pumped the jab—44 landed—and laced LaManna with rights and hooks every time the veteran tried to trade.

He dropped LaManna in Round 3 with a clean combo. In Round 4, another left hook forced LaManna to a knee. The ref missed it, but video replay fixed that. Round 5? Charlo sent him to the canvas again, this time with a laser-guided right.

“I felt good,” Charlo said. “I got to work and I knew my timing was there.”

LaManna gave Charlo more respect than anyone has lately. “He was sharper than I expected. I expected him to come out guns blazing… he has a great, heavy jab.”

It wasn’t even competitive. Charlo’s still got it—and now he’s got options.

Hernandez thrashes Davis with 10-round schooling

Yoenli Feliciano Hernandez looked like a Cuban cyborg.

He floored Kyrone Davis in Round 2 with a five-punch combo capped by a brutal straight left, then cruised to a shutout win on all three cards (100-89). Hernandez out-landed Davis 217 to 41. Yes, 217 to 41.

This was Davis’s fourth loss, and it was his worst. He couldn’t find his rhythm, couldn’t land his shots, and couldn’t stop the bleeding. Hernandez just dissected him with ease.

“The fact that it wasn’t a knockout let me test myself,” said Hernandez. “I felt just as strong in the 10th as I did in the 1st.”

Cuban technicians with power are a problem—and Hernandez just stamped himself as one to watch at 160.

Lucero flattens Valenzuela in Mexican shootout

Omar Valenzuela came in 23-0. He left on his back.

Isaac Lucero dropped him with a thudding right hand late in Round 2 and then finished the job with a brutal flurry just before the bell. The ref stepped in at 2:57, and Valenzuela’s undefeated record vanished into the Las Vegas night.

“I knew it was a matter of time,” Lucero said. “Once I started landing, I felt him fade.”

The first round was close. Both guys traded shots in the pocket. Lucero appeared to score a knockdown near the end of the round, but it was ruled a shot to the back of the head. No matter—he got the real one in Round 2.

Lucero is now 17-0 with 13 knockouts. Trained by Bob Santos, he’s got power, composure, and timing—and clearly belongs in the next tier of contenders.

  1. if u see stats resendiz land way more shots wit higher percent how can plant win with less effishency? Boxing bout hit without gettin hit but if you dont hurt them it dont count enough🤷‍♂️

  2. I don’t get why people hype charlo so much…lamanna was not good test after so long brake 🙄 come back against bum then say ‘im ready’? Nah face real comp first then talk.

  3. plant use to be slick fighter but he lost edge or sumthing since canelo fight maybe he never recover mentally? resendiz got heart tho n pressuring nonstop make diffrence in judges eyes.

    • He need new trainer or sumthing becuz same gameplan no work no more smh he’s predictable now 😒

  4. ‘Lucero is next star for real he got KO power and calm under fire🔥 Valenzuela try brawl but Lucero just timed him better an more clean hitters…unbeaten record mean nothing if u dont adapt!

    • ‘yea but ref should stop it earlier i think valenzuela took too many shots…he was out on feet before bell even 🛎️

  5. Hernandez made Davis look like total amateure, not even close! His punch stat was insane 😳. Cuban school of boxing is differnt class, technical and powerful boths. Davis had no chanse at all.

    • davis never prepared right i think or maybe underrate hernandez but stil geting beat that bad is embarasing for pro boxer of his level 😩

    • No excuses tho. He was outclassed plain n simple. Its obvius Hernandez train hard smart n execute the plan perfectley every round.

  6. What people dont understand is that Charlo was off 30 month! And stil destroyed LaManna lik he never leave. That show his elite level, sharpness is mentaly as much as phisicaly.

  7. i dont think resendiz really win dat fight plant did all the boxin and movment 🥊 but the judges just like agresive style more, it not fair when u do skill and lose still

    • but bro he punch more and harder u cant just dance round and expect to win, this not ballet 💃 its boxing, hurt the other guy not just touch him
