No easy nights for Mexico’s “La Pequeña Lulu.” Lourdes Juarez went through hell and back to keep her WBC light flyweight crown, scraping past former unified champ Yesica Nery Plata by majority decision in a tense ten-rounder at the South Padre Island Convention Center in Texas — streamed live worldwide on DAZN.
From the opening bell it was high-level chess, both women trading sharp counters and short bursts of precision. Plata looked the slicker early, stepping in behind a stiff jab and catching Juarez clean more than once, but the champion refused to blink. In round seven, Juarez was shoved off balance yet stayed cool, biting down and firing back with crisp combinations to keep things even through the back half.
Did Juarez really do enough to keep the belt?
After ten close rounds, the judges saw it 95-95, 96-94 twice for Juarez — enough to stay queen of the WBC light flyweight division. Post-fight she thanked her fans and gave Plata full credit, calling her “a strong and smart fighter.” The respect was real, but so was the relief. This was the kind of fight where one lazy round could’ve flipped everything.
If Plata had nicked the decision, nobody would’ve complained. It was that tight. But Juarez’s consistency in the exchanges probably won her the night. For a fighter with 43 pro fights, she still finds a way to make every round a war.
Co-main: Omar Juarez schools Rosario; Robinson crushes Holler
Brownsville’s own Omar “El Relámpago” Juarez didn’t need the judges to sweat. He picked apart Puerto Rico’s Omar Rosario with patience and precision, winning wide on all cards (99-89×2, 97-91). A late point deduction on Rosario sealed it, but truthfully, Juarez was in charge from round two on.
Then came a real statement. Australia’s Desley “Destroyer” Robinson — now flying the MVP banner — lived up to her name, smashing Logan Holler in two rounds to retain her unified IBF and WBO middleweight titles. It was one-way traffic: a vicious flurry in round two forced the stoppage at 1:08, and Robinson walked out with MVP’s Performance of the Night bonus.
Elsewhere on the card, Cuban prospect Ronny Alvarez stopped Bruno Pola in round five, showing heavy hands and smart adjustments after a shaky start. Shurretta “Chiccn” Metcalf outworked Krystal Rosado over eight rounds (78-74×2, 77-75), Alex “Chop Chop” Chaparro flattened David Gutierrez in round six to stay perfect, and Miranda Reyes boxed beautifully to beat Yolanda Vega on points despite Vega injuring her shoulder early.
Brownsville’s Sebastian Juarez produced chaos — dropped early, deducted twice, then came roaring back to stop Demarcus Layton at 2:59 of the first. Pedro Veitia and Xavier Zuniga fought to a split draw, and Edgar “Rocky” Rosales outpointed Reggie Ray Martinez to stay unbeaten.
This MVP show had everything: blood, controversy, and a few future stars. Juarez and Plata reminded fans that women’s light flyweight is as technical and ruthless as it gets, while Robinson might be the most dangerous female middleweight champion on the planet right now.
Juarez vs Plata 2? Yeah, that sells itself — and it’s the right kind of fight for this division.

This fight proves again why boxing got problems. You fight your heart out like Plata did and still lose cause some folks think being champion already means you should keep winning no matter what 😡
Plata had control most of the rounds and still got robbed 😤 I don’t care if Juarez got heart, heart don’t win fights, skill does! And this fight was too close for them scores.
Honestly, the whole night showed how bad judging can mess up good fights. If fighters like Plata keep losing close ones, people gonna stop watching cause what’s the point if the best don’t win?
You right, bro! I seen too many good boxers lose cause of messed up decisions like this one. Boxing needs new judges or something cause this is getting stupid now.
People keep acting like being aggressive means you win but nah, it’s about who’s smarter in there and Plata was smarter from start to end. Just because Juarez didn’t quit doesn’t mean she won.
I ain’t saying Juarez is bad, but she didn’t do enough to win clean like that. A draw would’ve been okay but two judges giving it to her means something fishy is going on here.
If this is what they call championship boxing, then I don’t get it no more. Plata fought better and still lost. Makes me mad when hard work don’t matter cause someone famous gets picked instead.
True! And these judges be making up numbers like they watched a different fight or something 😤 Plata deserved better than that.
Them judges messed up again. Plata was more active and controlled the ring better. Juarez just threw random punches. You can’t win a belt just off reputation. That’s not how boxing supposed to work.
Exactly! It looked like Plata was landing cleaner shots all night but they just gave it to Juarez because she already had the belt. The whole thing felt rigged if you ask me.
I don’t think Juarez really won that fight fair. Plata looked like she hit more and was smarter with her moves. Judges always favor the champ for no reason. That ain’t right at all. 👎
