Results: Umar Dzambekov Obliterates Artem Brusov In Two — Wild Card Southpaw Looks Built For Trouble

By Tim Smith - October 8, 2025 - No comments

Santa Ynez got loud Friday night when undefeated light heavyweight Umar Dzambekov flattened Artem Brusov in round two at the Chumash Casino Resort. Another Hollywood Fight Nights card from Tom Loeffler’s 360 Promotions lit up UFC Fight Pass, but Dzambekov stole the whole show with raw violence.

The Los Angeles-based southpaw, 27 and trained at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card by Marvin Somodio, didn’t waste a second. He came out fast, rocked Brusov three separate times in the opening frame, then iced him in the second with a brutal left uppercut. Ref Thomas Taylor didn’t need to think twice — Brusov wasn’t beating the count. Dzambekov moves to 13-0 (9 KOs) and just sent a message to the light heavyweight crowd: this kid’s dangerous.

Barrera Shines, Sandoval Survives A War

In the co-feature, Daniel “Chucky” Barrera (10-1-1, 4 KOs) boxed circles around Mario Hernandez (13-7-1, 4 KOs). Scores were 80-72, 79-73 and 77-75. Barrera’s counters were sharp, his feet calm, and the Eastvale crowd loved every second. Best he’s looked as a pro.

Then came a pure brawl: Sacramento’s Cain “Sugar” Sandoval (17-0, 15 KOs) and Jino “The Silent Beast” Rodrigo (13-6-2, 11 KOs) went to hell and back for ten rounds. Rodrigo brought relentless pressure, but Sandoval kept walking him into bombs. Finally, in the tenth, Sandoval ripped a three-punch combo that dropped Rodrigo hard. Time was 2:30 of the final round. Judges had it 88-83 twice and 89-82 for Sandoval at the moment of the stoppage.

Roxy Verduzco Stays Perfect, Vazquez Opens With A Bang

“Right Hook” Roxy Verduzco (6-0, 1 KO) stayed unbeaten with an eight-round schooling of Perla Lomeli (7-6, 1 KO). Judges went 80-72 twice, 79-73. Verduzco looked sharp moving up to junior featherweight, coolly countering Lomeli’s aggression.

The night kicked off with Santa Maria’s Jonathan Vazquez (2-0, 1 KO) dropping Antonio Ferrel (0-2) twice for a first-round stoppage in their four-round featherweight opener.

Honest ringside take

You could feel the air leave the room when Dzambekov’s uppercut landed. This wasn’t some padded prospect KO; Brusov had power and experience, and he got erased in two. Dzambekov’s raw but nasty — left hand’s a cannon, footwork’s better than people think. Give him a top-15 guy soon and let’s see if the hype’s real.

Barrera looked slick but still hittable. Sandoval’s fight was pure chaos — great for fans, but he can’t take that kind of punishment forever. Verduzco? Calm, clean, real prospect vibes.

My call: Dzambekov’s one or two fights from demanding a world title eliminator if the matchmaking stays honest.
