Torrez Walks Through Vianello, Passes “Test” with Ease

So much for the step-up. Richard Torrez Jr. was supposed to get tested by fellow Olympian Guido Vianello — instead, he broke him down over 10 one-sided rounds. Torrez, now 13-0 (11 KOs), stormed out of the gate with relentless pressure, awkward overhands, and vicious body shots that forced Vianello to clinch, hold, and survive.

He bullied the Italian to the ropes, drew a point deduction in round two due to excessive holding, and kept walking through anything Vianello threw. By round nine, Torrez had stunned him again and coasted to a clear unanimous decision: 98-91 (x2), 97-92.

“I was trying to set up my feints and my body shots. Then, my body shots started landing more and more. From there, other shots started landing like my hooks,” said Torrez.

“I don’t say no to fights. Whoever you give me, I’m going to say yes to.”

That wasn’t just a win—it was a loud “next, please.”

Delgado Survives Scare, Nicks Decision Over Elvis Rodriguez

Lindolfo Delgado (23-0, 16 KOs) kept his undefeated record by the skin of his teeth, edging Elvis Rodriguez (17-2-1, 13 KOs) in a razor-thin 10-round majority decision: 95-95, 96-94 (x2).

Rodriguez landed the biggest punch of the fight—a straight left in round nine that had Delgado stumbling like a drunk into the neutral corner. But Delgado bit down, rallied in round 10, and banked the frame on all three cards.

“He got me with a good shot. But aside from that, we knew how to handle him,” Delgado said.
“This was a WBC title eliminator. I deserve a shot at the WBC champion.”

Mason Destroys Ornelas, Wins Titles on 21st Birthday

Abdullah Mason (18-0, 16 KOs) didn’t need candles to celebrate his 21st birthday—he used fists. He thrashed Carlos Ornelas (28-5, 15 KOs) over six rounds, dropping him three times and winning by corner retirement after Round 6.

“I didn’t find the perfect shot, but I got him with a lot of good ones,” said Mason, who claimed the NABF and NABO lightweight titles.

Undercard Round-Up: Knockouts, Wars, and Statements

  • Albert Gonzalez (13-0, 7 KOs) outpointed Dana Coolwell (13-4, 8 KOs) in a smart, high-guard performance. Scores: 77-75, 78-74, 80-72.

  • Steven Navarro (6-0, 5 KOs) got clipped in Round 4 by Juan Garcia (14-2-2, 11 KOs), but stormed back with a savage barrage to force the stoppage at 2:56.

  • Art Barrera Jr. (8-0, 6 KOs) dropped Daijohn Gonzalez (12-6, 6 KOs) twice and forced a Round 2 TKO with a vicious left hook.

  • Jahi Tucker (14-1-1, 6 KOs) sent Troy Williamson (20-4-1, 14 KOs) to the canvas in Round 8 en route to a dominant 99-89 sweep on the cards.

  • DJ Zamora (16-0, 11 KOs) floored Hugo Castañeda (15-2-1, 11 KOs) twice in Round 3 and finished the job in the fourth (1:24).

  • Sammy Contreras (1-0, 1 KO) made a statement in his debut, stopping Robert Jimenez (2-3-1, 1 KO) in Round 1 (2:16).

  1. Wow! I loved reading about the fights! Richard Torrez Jr. is so strong, and I can’t believe how well he did! It’s amazing that Delgado won too, even after a tough moment. Happy birthday to Abdullah Mason for winning on his special day! What an exciting night at the Palms Casino!

  2. Wow, Torrez is amazing! He totally dominated Vianello. I mean, it’s like watching a lion take down a gazelle. The way he kept pressure was so impressive! Can’t wait to see who he fights next!

  3. Seriously? This article is just hype. Torrez didn’t even face real competition! Vianello was just there to make him look good. Where’s the real challenge? This whole thing feels rigged and boring!
