Jesse Rodriguez returns to his home state aiming to unify the super-flyweight division against unbeaten South African Phumelele Cafu on Saturday, July 19 at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The three-belt fight — for the WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazine titles — headlines a stacked DAZN card starting at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT / 1:00 a.m. UK.
Rodriguez wants more than titles. He wants the pound-for-pound throne.
Bam wants belts and bragging rights — but he’s not done yet
Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs) already unified at flyweight and starched Juan Francisco Estrada last year to become a two-time super-flyweight king. Now he’s one fight away from holding three of the four major belts at 115 — and he’s not hiding his ambition.
“I would love to be number one pound-for-pound,” said Rodriguez. “There’s a lot of bragging rights there.”
Rodriguez hasn’t fought in Texas since April 2023, when he picked up the WBO flyweight title. But he’s unbeaten in the Lone Star State and already went 11-0 at this very venue in Frisco. Cafu is undefeated — but completely untested at this level. And Bam doesn’t plan to let him leave with anything.
Rodriguez said, “It’s bad ass seeing the smaller weights shine… now I’m in that spot.”
Pacheco returns, Omari Jones steps up, more fights TBA
The chief support sees undefeated knockout artist Diego Pacheco defend his USWBC and WBO International super-middleweight straps against veteran Trevor McCumby. Pacheco (21-0, 18 KOs) has stopped 11 of his last 12 and is closing in on world-level opposition — but McCumby (27-1, 22 KOs) brings real experience and power. One of them won’t make it to the final bell.
Also on the card, U.S. Olympic bronze medalist Omari Jones fights for the third time as a pro, facing Argentine veteran Alfredo Blanco over six rounds.
Expect more fights to be added in the coming weeks, including key prospects and potential title eliminators.
This artical missd details on Omari Jones 🙄 hes olympian medalist n deserv mo attention then just ‘also fight’.. disrespectful man put sum respec on amateurs turn pros who grind for yrs too 🥉🥊
Rodriguezs team smart pickin Frisco again bcause home crowd helps energy n judges maybe 🤔 dont act like location dont matter in boxing.. its part strategy as much as punches
“Bam aint fought enuff top tier to call himself p4p #1 🙅♂️ that spot belong to Crawford or Usyk rn and maybe Tank soon if he step up competition… Bam got talent yes but slow down crowning him king of boxin.”
“Yo but remember hes only like what? 24?? nd already doin this much? give respect when due… others had years before gettin belts – bam movin fast”
Dont matter age if you dont beat elite over time bro 🤷🏾♂️ flash wins aint legacy till they add up – hes good yeah but P4P wayyy early lol
“WBO WBC Ring belt all on da line an people still don’t give the little guys props 😡 This card better than most PPV’s lately an Rodriguez deserve love for riskin it all again!! Hope he gets KO again like vs Estradda 😆”
This figt gonn be fire 🔥 but I don’t like how Rodriguez talk like it’s already his… disrespctful to Cafu who train hard and got no loses too! Bam actin cocky, not humble. Boxing is also bout sportsmenship, not just win beltz nd brag.
nah man you trippin’ 😤 bam has right to talk big, he earned it with KO’s and title runs at 2 weights! He’s star in makin and cafu ain’t got nun on him yet we’ll see
“I agree wit u bro, bam should focus on da fight not the headlines. ppl get too hyped on records nd forget styles win fights.. cafu might shock em all if bam ain’t ready.”
Cafu from South Afica is no push ofer! 🥊 peepel dont kno him so they say he ‘untested’ but that wrong ideaa… jus becuz u fight in diferent place dosnt mean you weak. Bam shoudn’t underestimate him or els big suprise is comin! this cud be upset of the year if he look past Cafu.
Rodriguez he think he already best but that not how it works… pound4pound iz more then juss wining beltz 🙄. He beat Estrada yes, but one fight not make you king. He still gotta prove more against realy tested fighters like Inoue or even Crawford weight aside, iz about skill not only record. We need see more of him befor crownin.
