Scooter Davis Signs with Top Rank: D.C.’s Knockout Machine Gets the Big Stage

Washington, D.C. just pushed another name into the world spotlight. Lightweight puncher Scooter Davis (8-0, 8 KOs), all wins by knockout, has inked a long-term deal with Top Rank. The 23-year-old is training out of the legendary Headbangers Gym under Barry Hunter, the same place that turned out Lamont Peterson and sharpened countless contenders.

Davis isn’t coming in with hype alone. He was 158-17 as an amateur, and since turning pro in early 2023, he’s been tearing through opponents with ruthless efficiency. Five of his first six ended in the opening round, and he’s carried that power into tougher matchups. In June, he blasted out Naheem Parker on the Abdullah Mason undercard, and earlier this month he knocked out Leandro Damian Medina in front of a raucous home crowd at CareFirst Arena.

Bob Arum Sees a Star in the Making

Top Rank boss Bob Arum made it plain why they signed him: “When I saw Scooter fight up close, it was clear I was watching a future world champion. He’s a nice young man, but when he steps in the ring, he has a mean streak. Mark my words: Scooter Davis will be the next superstar from Washington, D.C.”

That’s a big statement, but Arum’s not throwing darts here — he’s seen enough fighters turn into stars to trust his gut.

From Pop Warner to Pro Ranks

Scooter’s managed by his father, Deric, who once coached him on the football field before guiding him into boxing full-time. The pair are trying to follow the path blazed by D.C. names like Mark “Too Sharp” Johnson, Lamont Peterson, and Lamont Roach Jr. — fighters who didn’t just win belts, they brought big fights back to the capital.

Scooter knows the city’s behind him. “The city is family. They supported me throughout my amateur career. As I continue to win, they continue to invest their time in me. It fuels me to put on a show for my city. They have a real one, and I will do things the right way.”

Already Tested Against Elite

Davis isn’t padding his record in the dark. At Headbangers, he’s sparred with Gervonta “Tank” Davis, Stephen Fulton, Shawn Porter, Lamont Peterson, and Isaac Dogboe. Those are rounds that harden a young fighter fast. Combine that with his natural power, and it’s no wonder Top Rank moved in now, before someone else did.

  1. Scooter might be strong but being strong ain’t enough. You need smarts too in boxing and I ain’t seen him fight long enough to say he got that.

  2. People always believe what promoters say too quick. Bob Arum just wanna sell tickets and make money, not tell the truth. We don’t know if Scooter can handle real pressure yet 🤷.

  3. Everybody hyping this kid up too fast. Yeah he got knockouts, but who he really fought? Nobody big yet. Until he beat someone real, I ain’t calling him no superstar.

  4. I don’t get why people acting like this Scooter guy already a champion. Just cuz he knocked out some folks don’t mean he ready for the big leagues. They need to slow down with all that talk. 😒
