Usyk -Dubois Undercard: Okolie vs Lerena and Edmondson vs Lapin Amp Up Wembley Superfight

By Tim Smith - June 12, 2025 - 8 comments

Lawrence Okolie and Kevin Lerena lock horns for the WBC Silver heavyweight title, and British light-heavy champ Lewis Edmondson takes on Ukraine’s Daniel Lapin for two international belts. This undercard demolition derby drops on Saturday, July 19 at Wembley Stadium, starting 7 p.m. UK / 2 p.m. ET, live on DAZN PPV. Get real fights or get lost—there’s no room for runners here.

Can Okolie’s thunderous power overwhelm Lerena’s seasoned cruiserweight skill? Will Edmondson’s gritty home-soil momentum hold off Lapin’s unbeaten southpaw gasp-and-grind style? Both bouts carry stakes that could make—or break—careers on a night already defined by Usyk vs Dubois.

Context, Backstory, Narrative Tension

Okolie (21-1, 14 KOs) stormed from cruiserweight glory—three defences of his WBO title and a bridgerweight knockout—to heavyweight status, where he blasted Hussein Muhamed in round one to claim this Silver belt. Lerena (31-3, 15 KOs) ruled the cruiserweight division in 2017, defended six times, then switched to heavyweight and nabbed the IBO Intercontinental strap. He nearly stunned Daniel Dubois in 2022. Which version shows up in London?

Edmondson (11-0, 3 KOs) stunned Dan Azeez for the British and Commonwealth light-heavy titles in his tenth pro fight, then edged out undefeated Oluwatosin Kejawa. Lapin (11-0, 4 KOs) climbed the pro ranks as part of Team Usyk, stacking IBO Continental, WBA Continental, and IBF Intercontinental belts. Who brings the heat when national pride and unbeaten records collide?

Stakes, Predictions, Implications

A Lerena upset would rip open the heavyweight pecking order and crash Okolie’s heavyweight debut momentum. An Edmondson loss hands Lapin the keys to Europe and cements his status as the next Usyk protégé.  Can they handle the pressure under Wembley’s lights?

  1. ‘Silver’ belts don’t mean much if we being honest here 🤷‍♀️ These fights feel more like trying to make names for DAZN than actual top level boxing matches worth paying for!

  2. People saying Edmondson got heart cause he beat Azeez but they forget Azeez was off that night. Lapin trains with Usyk, that says everything about what level he at already 😤.

    • True! And Edmondson barely made it past Kejawa who wasn’t even ranked high. Lapin’s gonna jab him all night long till the ref stops it or something.

    • Nah you both wrong! Edmondson fights like a bulldog and Lapin ain’t never been hit like how Lewis hits on home turf 💪🇬🇧.

  3. This whole card feels like it’s all hype just cause of Usyk vs Dubois. Edmondson ain’t proved nothing yet if you ask me, and Lapin’s gonna outbox him easy with that southpaw style.

  4. I don’t get why folks think Lerena got a shot. Okolie is way too strong and been smashing people since cruiserweight. Just look at his record. Power wins fights, not fancy footwork 🥊.

    • You wrong man, Lerena nearly beat Dubois and that ain’t no easy thing. He’s clever and knows how to survive. Okolie ain’t gonna walk through him like that.

    • Okolie might hit hard but if he can’t land nothing clean, it won’t matter. Lerena’s been around, he knows how to fight smart and take the big punches away.
