Xander Zayas: Puerto Rico’s Next Champion?

Xander Zayas (20-0, 12 KOs) has built a reputation as Puerto Rico’s most promising young star since signing with Top Rank at just 16 years old.

His dominant performances in 2024, including a one-sided win over former world champion Patrick Teixeira in June and a decision over Damian Sosa in September, solidified his spot as the No. 1 contender for the WBO title.

Now, he faces his toughest test yet in Germany’s Slawa Spomer, with a potential world title shot on the line.

“This is the most important fight of my career. I’m fighting someone who’s ranked and unbeaten, and the winner will likely get a world title shot this year. We’ve worked toward that goal for many years, and we are closer than ever. I’m highly focused on what I have to do, and I know I have to look spectacular.”

With a versatile style, sharp counterpunching, and relentless pressure, Zayas plans to make a statement on the biggest stage of his career.

Slawa Spomer: The German Dark Horse

Slawa Spomer (20-0, 11 KOs) might not be a household name, but he has quietly established himself as a legitimate contender at 154 pounds.

His 2023 included impressive stoppage wins over Felice Moncelli and Milan Prat, followed by a first-round knockout of Adam Ngange in November.

While he enters as the underdog, Spomer’s composure, power, and ability to adjust mid-fight could make this a dangerous matchup for Zayas.

“I’ve watched clips of his fights. He’s undefeated and knows how to adjust. He’s a good boxer, but I feel superior in every aspect. He’s a warrior, but I am the better fighter overall.”Xander Zayas

With a title shot in reach, expect Spomer to come in prepared for the biggest fight of his career.

Promoter & Broadcast Details

Scott Murray, Queensberry Promotions:
“This is a battle of two undefeated fighters on the rise, and that’s what makes this fight special. Both are fighting for their first world title opportunity, which guarantees we’ll see fireworks.”

3 thoughts on “Xander Zayas vs. Slawa Spomer – February 14, 2025”

  1. Honestly, this article lacks depth and does not consider how unpredictable boxing can be. Just because Zayas is undefeated doesn’t mean he will win. Spomer has the potential to shock everyone if he sticks to his gameplan.

  2. I think Zayas is just too cocky, he is not ready for Spomer. Zayas might have wins but those are against weak fighters, Spomer has real skills and can take him down. This gonna be a upset!

  3. I don’t get why everyone is so hyped about Zayas. Sure, he’s unbeaten, but fighting Spomer isn’t as big a deal as they make it sound. Just because he had one good fight doesn’t mean he’s ready for a title shot. Spomer might be underrated but has also proven himself. This fight could go either way, and I think people are underestimating the German fighter.
